We understand this policy frustrates some folks—and yes, we’ve taken heat for it in reviews—but here’s the truth: programming customer-provided remotes is not a service we actively advertise or recommend, and for good reason.
In the past, we’ve made exceptions and tried to help. While some of those attempts worked out fine, too many ended with defective remotes—especially ones bought from sites like eBay—that wouldn’t program at all. In those cases, the customer ends up paying for our time, the software fee we incur per attempt, and still walks away with no working key. Worse, in rare but serious instances, bad remotes have triggered a vehicle’s anti-theft system, wiping out all programmed keys and immobilizing the car. That means a tow to the dealership, extra expense, and a whole lot of frustration—for everyone involved.
That’s why we only program remotes we supply. Our key fobs come factory direct, are guaranteed to work, and include programming at no extra charge.
That said, in some cases, we may attempt to program a customer-provided remote—but only if the following conditions are met:
It was purchased from a legitimate source (factory direct or an authorized dealer—not third-party sites like eBay).
The customer signs a waiver releasing us from liability if the remote fails or damages the vehicle.
The customer agrees to pay the programming fee whether or not the remote successfully programs.
We stand by our work and do everything we can to keep our customers safe and satisfied. Thanks for understanding why we’ve drawn this line.
To attract and keep great talent, we offer something rare in the trades: weekends off. Our team enjoys a healthy work-life balance, with no shifts before 8:00 a.m. or after 5:30 p.m., and we’re closed on most major holidays. It’s one of the ways we stay competitive as an employer—and keep our staff happy, focused, and here for the long haul.
We simply don’t have the staff to offer emergency service reliably at this time. Most after-hours calls are for lockouts, and in those situations, a local tow company or a locksmith who specializes in emergency lockouts may be your best bet. We’d rather be upfront than overpromise—and leave you waiting.
Our prices are competitive—not the cheapest, but for good reason. We’re licensed, bonded, insured, and certified, even though it’s not required in Washington State. We do it anyway—for your peace of mind.
Every technician has a clean background check and is a full-time, career-level employee—not a gig worker. They earn a livable wage with health and dental insurance, retirement matching, and paid vacation. That means they show up focused, happy, and committed to doing the job right—because they’re invested in the work and the community.
We guarantee our work, stand behind every job, and believe that when you hire a locksmith, you deserve someone you can trust—not just someone who’s available.
That’s the Keys Plus difference.
Our service area keeps growing. Right now, we cover as far north as Olympia, east to Cougar, south to Ridgefield, and west all the way to the Pacific Ocean. If you’re outside that range and struggling to find a locksmith, we get it—and we want to help. Give us a call, and let’s see what we can figure out together.
Yes—with two exceptions: keys cut by code and third-party key fobs.
For code-cut keys, we rely on the exact information provided by the customer—if it’s even slightly off, the key may not work. And with third-party fobs (especially those not purchased through us), we can’t guarantee functionality since we can’t verify their quality or condition.
Everything else we sell and service? 100% guaranteed. We stand behind our work—no guesswork, no shortcuts.
Yes, we can install or rekey hardware you provide—but just a heads up, we can’t guarantee parts we didn’t supply. You’ll only be charged for the labor and keying service. If you have any questions about compatibility, we’re happy to take a look before you buy!
Most keys take under a minute to cut. For programming or more complex keys like sidewinder or tubular styles, plan for about 15 minutes max. We’ll have you in and out in no time!
Locksmithing is almost always done via an apprenticeship path. A Locksmith Apprentice works under a Master Locksmith for a minimum of 2 years, and must demonstrate their skill before claiming the title of a Locksmith. Some states require special locksmith specific licenses, but Washington State does not.
It’s not for sale—we REALLY like it. It’s got sentimental value. But… if you happen to have $1,000,000.00 lying around, we might consider it. 😉
If you’re locked out and it just can’t wait, your best bet may be a local tow truck company—many can help with vehicle lockouts in a pinch.
But if you can hold off, it’s worth the wait. At Keys Plus, we do the job right the first time, with guaranteed parts, fair pricing, and decades of trusted service behind every call.
So get somewhere safe, breathe, and if it can wait—we’ll be here when the doors open, ready to take care of you the way only Keys Plus can.
We do not charge for programming so long as the device is purchased from us.
Yes, or we can come to you with a service call fee. We have equipment that we plug into your vehicle’s on-board computer to ‘talk’ to your vehicle.
Most likely, yes! Some auto manufacturers keep their key technology proprietary, and so your only option is taking it to the dealership. However, we can do most.
Car dealerships tend to charge more for key, fob, and remote services—partly because it’s not their primary focus. At Keys Plus, it is ours. We specialize in precision key cutting and programming, and we’re proud to offer the same high-quality service at a lower price. It’s what we do best.
We’re a service-based company, so we don’t sell hardware or parts on their own—but a local hardware store should have what you need. Let us know if you need help with installation or service!
For programming services, we recommend making an appointment to ensure availability. For everything else, just swing by—no appointment needed!
We have an assistant manager on site who reports to our shop manager, and the shop manager reports directly to the owner. The owner is not based at the shop but can be reached by email at tb@keyspluslocksmiths.com.
All of our locksmiths undergo a criminal background check before they’re hired. If any team member were to commit a felony while employed, they would be immediately separated from the company. We take trust seriously.
Every locksmith also completes a rigorous 2-year apprenticeship, and must fully demonstrate their skills before earning the title of “Locksmith.” When you call us, you’re getting someone trained, vetted, and proven.
Community projects that are working with state or federal funds will receive tax incentives for using companies that are woman owned, minority owned, veteran owned, or are considered a disadvantaged business. You can verify our certification status on the OMWBE’s Certified Business Directory.
